Solon will be effective voice in Jefferson City

Independence, MO —
To the editor:

As a retiring state representative, I feel that integrity, leadership and honesty is what is needed to be an effective representative within a district. Having known Sheila Solon for several years, I believe that Sheila will be an effective voice in Jefferson City for the people of the 55th District.

Sheila believes in less government, lower taxes, and in a  strong education for our children, and will vote in the best interest of the people of the 55th District. It is my sincere hope that you will support Sheila in the upcoming Nov. 2 election. She will be an asset to the General Assembly and will serve with integrity, and  honesty and be a positive voice for the people.

Please vote for Sheila Solon on Nov. 2.

To the editor:

I was thrilled to learn that Sheila Solon is willing to continue representing me in the Missouri House of Representatives, and I would like to enthusiastically recommend her to the other voters in the 55th District! I feel as though Sheila was representing me personally in her work on the planning commission and the city council, as I can’t think of a single issue that she voted differently than I would have voted myself.

If you are unfamiliar with Sheila Solon I would describe her as a very personable woman with a professional demeanor and a strong sense of right and wrong. She is an attractive lady, polite, respectful, friendly and outgoing. But don’t let the exterior fool you, Sheila is a steel magnolia. She has strong opinions and she doesn’t take the easy way out. She supports what she thinks is best for her constituents, even if it’s not the popular opinion, even if it means she has to ask uncomfortable questions or be criticized by her peers.

Sheila and I worked together in PTA and Scouting, and I can attest that she is an effective leader who listens to other opinions and gives them due consideration. She does an excellent job of bringing people together to work toward a common goal.

Sheila has been accused of being against progress in Blue Spring, but the truth is that the majority of the city officials seem to think that the word “progress” is synonymous with the word “development.”  The word progress is defined as “a movement toward a goal.” Many citizens worked hard to put together long range plans for the development of Adams Dairy Parkway, downtown, and other areas of the city and Sheila has always supported projects that would move Blue Springs toward those predefined goals

Recommendations in key Missouri races

A new class of Missouri lawmakers will travel to Jefferson City in January to confront a fiscal crisis still in full bloom and a host of other challenges.
They’ll have to find their way without many of the legislature’s veteran leaders. Largely because of term limits, 67 of the 163 seats in the House are open, along with 10 of the 34 Senate seats.
The situation calls for serious-minded lawmakers who can get up to speed quickly on complex issues and cross party lines if necessary to get things done. There is no time for politicians to engage in shenanigans or drive purely ideological agendas.

Here are The Star’s recommendations in selected contested area races

DISTRICT 55
Republican Sheila Solon, a former Blue Springs City Council member, has the best experience to replace Bryan Pratt, who was forced out by term limits. Her opponents are Democrat Clay Rodgers and Libertarian Party candidate Jeffrey Hoorfar.

To the editor:

I write today in total and complete support of two women who will do a great job for Eastern Jackson County in the state legislature. Both Sheila Solon and Jeanie Lauer are bright, dedicated individuals who have worked hard on the Blue Springs City Council and will be influential in Jefferson City.

I have worked both with and against each of them on various issues and found that even when I thought they were on the wrong side of an issue that their arguments were well based and thought out. They are always respectful of differing positions and work hard to get all of the facts before voting.

The negative and outrageously deceitful mailings being sent out against them cannot hide the truth. These talented women will serve us well. I can hardly wait to cast my vote.

To the editor:
Sheila Solon has grown tremendously as an elected City Council person, and I expect her to grow even more as our state representative. Often, appointed and elected representatives make decisions and vote their personal interests instead of making decisions based on the wants and needs of the people they represent. Probably the thing that has impressed me most with Sheila is her ability to relate to the specific group of people that she represents.

Sheila often frustrated me on the Planning and Zoning Commission due her votes on some zoning issues that went against what I felt was best for Blue Springs, but she based her votes on what the majority of her neighbors wanted. Then on  the council, her votes reflected what was best for the city as a whole, not just her neighborhood.

She was one of two council persons who consistently voted for fiscal responsibility at City Hall. Sheila was one of two council persons who voted against huge subsidies to private developers for retail development but was a strong supporter of high-tech development, such as the Missouri Innovation Center. She was one of two council persons who voted against the city promising repay more than $30 million in loans if the developer defaulted. Sheila stood up for transparency in city government when four of the six council persons voted to keep secrets from the taxpayers.

I have every reason to believe that as our state representative she will vote for what is best for her entire district. I hope you will vote for Sheila Solon so she can take the same type of leadership to Jefferson City that she demonstrated in Blue Springs

Sheila Solon has worked diligently for the city of Blue Springs, as I know she will as a state representative. She is the type of representative we need working for us in these difficult times. I can think of no one better to help increase jobs and bring economic stability and growth to our district.
I have known Sheila for many years and think she has the character and values to see that our state government gets back on track and set things in motion for a better future. Vote for Sheila Solon on Nov. 2 and look forward to 2011

To the editor:

We are proud to support a candidate for the 55th District State Representative who has for many years been dedicated to serving the community of Blue Springs. As a young, working mother of two children, Sheila Solon made sure she was actively involved in her church, children’s school and community through volunteerism.

Through the years, she gained valuable experience while serving as PTA president and on the Blue Springs Planning Commission and City Council. Mrs. Solon has proved again and again that she is dedicated to making a positive impact for Blue Springs businesses and its’ citizens. Not afraid to make tough decisions, Mrs. Solon continues to diligently analyze and understand any issue before her. She will then make decisive, educated determinations based on cost effective, true benefits for Blue Springs residents and businesses.

Sheila Solon definitely has the heart and commitment necessary to represent citizens of the 55th District. We highly recommend sending her to Jefferson City to serve on our behalf

A good year for the Chiefs, Republicans

Michael Freeman, Guest Columnist

As I write this article on Friday afternoon. I am anxiously waiting the Chiefs against the Colts.

Sure we are a big underdog but I have faith in a big win. Unlike most “fans” I predicted the 3-0 start and won a tasty five layer burrito for my daring bet.

I was a fan in the 1980’s when the Chiefs really stunk. It was easy to be a fan during the 90’s of Marty Ball and was still a fan when the losing ways returned.

Now that we are 3-0, the bandwagon is getting full of new fans. But I have learned to come to accept that from Kansas City area.

Don’t worry; there is plenty of room on the bandwagon for new fans and old. We welcome everyone and we are glad to have you.

Similar to the Chiefs, I was a fan of Republican Party through the easy Reagan years. I maintained my loyalty during the tough Clinton years, through George W. Bush and now through Obama. But I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, Independents, Tea Party supporters and even Democrats are joining the Republican bandwagon this fall.

This week, I have received not one but two mailers for Clay Rodgers who is running for Missouri House of Representatives 55th District. What I found odd is nowhere on the flyer was the word Democrat. Is he ashamed of his party? Has Clay jumped the Obama/Pelosi bandwagon and hopes no one notices he is all alone?

I will be casting my vote for the Republican Party this year. Sheila Solon in the 55th, who I have dedicated time and money to support, she is a proud financially conservative Republican.

Mike Cierpiot, Jeanie Lauer, Will Kraus, Roy Blunt, Tom Schweich and Vicky Hartlzer all have tough races and will come out ahead. So please read more about these Republican candidates and cast your vote for them you won’t regret it.

This is a good year to be a Chiefs fan and a great year to be a Republican. Don’t worry; there is plenty of room on the band wagon new supporters and old. We welcome everyone and we are glad to have you.

Filling the state representative seat once held by Carson Ross and Bryan Pratt is no easy task. Both of them did so much for the 55th District. The primaries are done, and it is time to come together to elect someone who will work hard and do what is best for the people of our district.

I know Sheila Solon is the person for that job. She has proven to be hardworking, diligent and deliberative. In these extremely difficult times, we need someone in Jefferson City who will look out for us, who will tenaciously look after the state’s checkbook and who will fight to bring jobs and economic opportunity to our area. Sheila Solon is the person for that job.

Your vote is very important in this election. Get out on Nov. 2, and vote for Sheila Solon

As we read “Letters to the Editor” from Sheila Solon’s state representative supporters we are, or should be, impressed concerning her experience and dedication to the people.

I support Sheila for state representative because of her experience during Blue Springs city growth. At each committee meeting Sheila always voiced the concerns of the people.

Consider; our state representative for the last eight years has been Bryan Pratt (now running for senator), always researched the concerns of the people and supported them, Sheila will now do the same.

Sheila’s experience that qualifies her to serve as state representative includes serving on the Blue Springs Planning Commission, Development Advisory Commission, Multi-Family Task Force, Citizens Police Academy, City Council, School funding, home owner association meetings and others. These organizations plan and provide services for the needs of the people so there are always check and balances that need to occur.

As state representative, Sheila will now perform similar duties as Congress performs at the federal level. She will have to research proposals, consult with lobbyist and decide on what issues are best for the people of Missouri and vote accordingly. She has the experience and dedication required to serve at the state level.

So now, you and I as voters need to vote and elect the best person to represent us, and I propose that we send Sheila Solon to Jefferson City

Solon will safeguard our hopes for the future

At the recent Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest, I heard many times the same question: “What are we voting for?”

The best answer I can give is we are voting for our future as citizens of Missouri and the U.S.A. We have the right and responsibility to give careful thought to the issues and candidates for which we cast our sacred vote.

We have reached the point of clear choice between continuing on the same path of increasing government involvement in our lives, eroding our ability to choose our own pursuit of happiness, or we can choose less government, giving us more freedom to make our own choices. We are a representative republic, and therefore we choose who will represent us in our government.

I am choosing a conservative candidate to represent me and my values in Jefferson City. I am choosing a candidate who is beholden only to her constituents. I am choosing one who has demonstrated her commitment to listening and talking with her constituents by climbing stairs to our front doors in 95-plus degree weather meeting citizens on their front porches.

I am choosing a candidate who has shown herself to be a positive force in education by having been elected as a PTA president and a longtime active member of the Citizens Advisory Council. I am choosing a candidate who has demonstrated her support of small businesses and the people of Blue Springs through years of working on the Planning Commission and as a city councilman.

Sheila Solon is my choice to represent us in Jefferson City because she has lived her commitment to the values that will guide the future of Missouri. She will best represent us in what we are voting for, our future

To the editor:

We are about to lose State Representative Bryan Pratt, who has done an excellent job protecting the interests of the 55th District. It is very important that whoever replaces him has just as strong of a commitment to the people and businesses of this District. I believe very strongly Sheila Solon is the person who has that commitment, ability and willingness to take over were Bryan leaves off.

During her tenure as City Councilman in Blue Springs, Sheila has always taken a stance for her constituents and their best interests by not giving into the pressures that opposed those interests.

She has voted against increased sales taxes and raising property taxes. She has refused to risk taxpayer money in bailing out a private developer at a cost of $32 million. She has always been available to her constituents by phone or e-mail to address their concerns. She has proven her loyalty to the people she represents. Sheila’s support has come from within this district. On the other hand, her opponent has been flooded by financial support from outside the 55th District and state.

We need to have a state representative in the 55th District who doesn’t owe any political favors, outside our district, that could overshadow our interests.

Freeman: Solon has shown herself worthy of nomination

Blue Springs, MO —
Numerous letters to the editor have been written on Sheila Solon’s behalf. They have been written by friends, colleagues, and even former Blue Spring’s City Councilman Lyle Shaver. I will try not to be repetitive of what others have said. But when writing about someone as great as Sheila Solon, it will be hard to not repeat those kind words.

Sheila’s greatest accomplishment will be helping her husband Charlie raise two great people Lindsey and Spencer Solon. If you spend any time at all with her children, you will realize she has raised them to be respectful, intelligent, hardworking, and generous. Perhaps being a great parent is not reason to vote someone into office.  But, seeing the character in one’s children truly shows the character of the parents that raised them.

Solon always takes the time to listen to constituents. I truly mean listen, in the world we live in today, very few people listen and this is a trait we find even less in public servants. She understands she is not in office to represent her own political and financial needs; she is in it to be a voice for those that elected her. She always takes the time to research the issues, pros & cons, and then makes an informed decision.  From determining so called family friendly video chain that rented adult videos, to pointing out public servants that were profiting from organizations they helped finance with city dollars.  She has fought against the majority when they wanted to raise property taxes; she fought them when they wanted bailout a private developer with 32 million dollars in city backed bonds.  Sheila Solon’s number one priority is and always will be for transparency and openness in all levels of government

Candidate Solon is against any new taxes and believes the state must learn to live within its means. She believes all students deserve a quality education and we must fully fund the school foundation formula and career ladder. It is for these reasons that she has been endorsed by the Missouri School Administrators Political Action Committee.

Sheila Solon believes in personal freedom and personal responsibility. Sheila is Pro-life and has been endorsed by Missouri Right to Life. She will fight for the 2nd amendment; she belongs to the NRA and has a Missouri Conceal and Carry Permit.  Sheila is against any government mandated health care.

This year an unprecedented amount of seats will be open in the Missouri House. There will be experienced veterans vying for key committees and looking to take advantage of naïve politicians. Sheila Solon’s real world experience will prove invaluable if she is elected. She has served as the Mayor Pro-Tem, for 3 years as City Councilman, 9 years on the Blue Springs Planning Commission. Sheila has served as chairman of too many committees to name in this limited column space. (I urge you to see the complete list yourself at http://www.sheilasolon.com) This amount of experience is unmatched and show’s Sheila’s proven track record.

On Aug. 3 please vote for Sheila Solon as the Republican nominee for Missouri House 55th seat.

I have not known Sheila Solon for 20 years. We were not in PTA together; I do not go to her church. Solon did not know me from Adam when I came to her with a concern related to city development. I called her because she was my councilman and I was hoping that she would help.

My husband and I found her to be extremely informed, approachable and supportive. She patiently helped us navigate through the city’s multifarious system and cheerfully found the answers to our many questions. Solon never asked us what she was going to get out of it or questioned if she would be spending her political capital by assisting us.

During this time, Solon discovered that of one the safeguards of landowners rights, the protest petition, was convoluted and buried in the city’s statutes. She undertook the task of rewriting it so that it was streamlined and citizen friendly. It is now easily accessible on the city’s webpage. You no longer have to be an insider to know that it exists or how to utilize it.

I have heard the criticism leveled at Ms. Solon; it is unwarranted. It was her job as the citizen’s representative on the City Council to strive for safe, desirable, and quality neighborhoods. I am sorry that she is no longer my councilman, but I look forward to the day when she’s my representative in Jefferson City. Please join me in voting for Sheila Solon on Tuesday.

The Examiner was gracious enough to give me the opportunity to write a “yin” to the “yang” of Jeff Quibell in Wednesday’s Examiner. Mr. Quibell’s column starts with some platitudes about how we all need to do our homework at election time and base our vote upon the facts and not on personal friendship. I couldn’t agree more. He then uses this as a segue into criticizing Councilman Ron Fowler’s support for Sheila Solon in her campaign for the Missouri House.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have known Sheila for a number of years and consider her a friend. I have contributed to her campaign. Although I never served on the City Council with her, during my tenure on the council (1996 to 2005), Sheila served on the Planning Commission. During 2004 and 2005, I had the opportunity to work directly with her when I was mayor pro tem, who sits as a non-voting member of the commission. I have always admired Sheila for her diligence and hard work. As a planning commissioner, she would go the extra mile and not only have reviewed the materials sent out to all commission members prior to the meeting but would personally go out and view each project on the agenda. What most impressed me about Sheila were her passion and her independence. She did what she thought was best for the city and her constituents and didn’t necessarily follow the “party line.”

Some of you may remember when, in late 2005, the mayor and certain members of the council tried to remove Sheila from the Planning Commission for asking some inconvenient questions regarding a Chicago developer with whom the city had climbed in bed and pulled up the sheets. Sheila had done her homework and had raised questions about the financial stability of this developer and whether it could be trusted. Eventually, the mayor and the council had to back down because of outrage from the public and from Sheila’s colleagues on the Planning Commission. What few people know is that this particular developer eventually left the city at the altar and with the tab for all of the expenses. I don’t recall anyone (including Mr. Quibell) apologizing to Sheila or telling her she was right.

Mr. Quibell also stated that Sheila was against the Adams Dairy Landing Project. This is a complicated issue. Everyone is for economic development in the abstract, and we all like the shiny new stores and restaurants that have sprung up along the parkway. However, just because you like going to Olive Garden doesn’t mean that you should be willing to guarantee their mortgage. It is easy to vote for the incentives that bring these things about so that you will look like a hero to your constituents when they come out of the ground. However, there are costs to these incentives, which will have to be borne by the taxpayers, which are not so obvious and may only come about after you are out of office.

The recent decision to guarantee the bonds issued by the developer of Adams Dairy Landing (which Sheila opposed) was a reversal of longtime city policy. I am not privy to the numbers that the council was looking at in making this decision, but one need look no farther than Kansas City, where taxpayers are forking over $10 million this year to make up the shortfalls in Power & Light District bonds. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen here. I know from my own experience that developers have learned to play the cities like a Stradivarius where incentives are involved.

Sheila Solon has been one of the few people on the council who has been willing to ask the tough questions and ask them in public. I am confident that Sheila will be a passionate, independent voice in Jefferson City. Since I do not live in her district, I will not be able to vote for her. I wish I could.

Star recommendations for the Missouri House

Kansas City Star Editorial
7/27/2010

Familiar challenges, unfamiliar faces. That’s the backdrop for Missouri voters contemplating their choices in legislative races on Aug. 3.
Term limits have created an abundance of empty seats, but freshman legislators will have little time for a learning curve.
Tough budgets and other big issues await them.
With that in mind, here are The Star’s recommendations for contested area House seats in the primary.

District 55: Sheila Solon has been a strong and independent voice on the Blue Springs City Council. She is an impressive candidate for the seat being vacated by Bryan Pratt. Her Republican opponent is Mike Parker, a recent graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City master of business administration program.
Clay Rodgers is running unopposed as a Democrat, and Jeffrey Hoorfar is the Libertarian Party candidate

Solon has gained the experience to be our state representative with the different committees and chairmanships she had with the city of Blue Springs, the last one being City Councilman in District 3. When Mrs. Solon was the District 3 councilman, I called her a few times with some problems or information I needed. Mrs. Solon would return my call; if not the same day she would call the next day with the information I requested. Sheila Solon voted against increasing our 2010 residential property taxes. Unfortunately, the vote was a tie, the tie was broken and you’re paying higher municipal property taxes now. Sheila voted against additional sales tax rates on Adams Dairy Parkway. Unfortunately, the vote was a tie, the tie was broken and Blue Springs residents will be paying higher sales tax for shopping in Blue Springs.

Sheila Solon voted against housing complexes which increase crime and reduce neighboring property values. Sheila wants to reduce crime by unshackling our Blue Springs Police and letting them chase and arrest bad guys again.

Those weak on crime and high on taxes claim Sheila Solon is difficult to work with. Those who want fiscally conservative, accountable and responsible government should vote for Sheila Solon on Aug. 3.

I’ve consistently found her to be a person who stands up and fights for what she believes in, even when it’s not popular. I believe she has the experience we need in Jefferson City to do the right thing with our tax dollars, to minimize wasteful spending, and use money where it’s most beneficial to our state.

Solon for District 55
Blue Springs Journal 7/20/2010

I fully support Sheila Solon. She has been a long-time friend and contributor to the community starting with the many years in the PTA, planning commission and city council. She works hard for the people, is trustworthy and honest and will make a good Representative for District 55.

Although we worked very hard and long hours in the PTA, we always had fun with making a difference for the kids. When she became PTA president, I was amazed how she could bring the school together with all the accomplishments that were made.

Her philosophy was to delegate projects to each committee that were formed. She allowed them freedom to gather as much information to get the job done and report back their plan at the PTA meeting.

Once their plan was OK’d by the majority, she would give each committee the freedom to complete the project as they saw fit.
I was always encouraged to speak my opinion, even though we disagreed on a few items. Not everyone agreed on everything but she had their respect.

Many tough decisions had to be made and she was not afraid to make them.

Our PTA at Cordilll-Mason Elementary became very strong under her leadership. In 2000, Cordill-Mason was awarded the Most Outstanding PTA in the state of Missouri.

I feel she will make the best Representative for District 55.

Solon’s experience will be valued at state level

To the editor:

The Missouri House of Representatives, which Sheila Solon will be a member of with your approval, is the lower chamber of the Missouri General Assembly and has 163 members, representing districts with an average of 31,000 residents. It has standing committees, special committees, budget committees and subcommittees, joint committees, salary committees, etc., each of which discuss development or proposals for state improvements and regulations that may affect each of us.

As the August election draws nearer, we should consider the representative we would like to send to this legislative body who would properly represent us and who has the required qualification and experience to discuss major items.

Personally, I support Sheila Solon because of her experience and city voting record concerning new businesses, school funding, taxes etc. Sheila’s experience in Blue Springs includes serving as mayor pro-tem and city councilwoman as well as serving on the Planning Commission, Development Advisory Commission, Multi-Family Task Force, Capital Improvements Committee, Citizen’s Police Academy and others. She has truly represented the people and often has been criticized for speaking up in favor of the taxpayer and not the developers or city planners.

Understanding that state representatives generally perform the same duties for the state that Congress performs at the federal level and, as a general rule, has the same checks and balances is why we should elect a person with experience. Sheila’s experience will be most valuable as businesses and special interests lobby, in a very persuading manner, to obtain beneficial legislation, defeat unfavorable perceived measures or influence other legislative action.

So, don’t we want to send a person to this position that has the experience, knowledge and personality to respond to special-interest groups? The answer to this question is up to you and me, the voters

To the editor:

As the August Primary and November elections approach, we all have an obligation to get to know the candidates as much as possible.

Sheila Solon candidate for 55th District House of Representatives has a long history of civic involvement and leadership. Highlights include nine years on the city Planning Commission as member and chair, three years on the City Council and as mayor pro-tem. In addition, she has served on and led many city committees and task forces.

While serving with her on the City Council, I was always impressed with her thorough research and detailed analysis of issues. She diligently went through city budgets, looking for alternatives to save tax dollars, and promoted transparency of city government in all areas.

I have found Sheila easy to communicate and work with. She is dedicated to representing her constituents (not special-interest groups) with enthusiasm.

I think Sheila Solon has the experience and capability to be an outstanding candidate for the Missouri House of Representatives

To the editor:

Missourians in this area have the opportunity to select an outstanding individual to represent them in the State Legislature. Sheila Solon is the person and will work hard to be fair and unbiased. She has worked in Blue Springs local government for many years, both on the Planning Commission and the City Council. In both groups, she worked harder than anyone else in either group.

She has not worked in any vacuum, but instead was out and gathered opinions and views from her constituents. She will stand up for positions that she sees as correct even though those positions may not be popular.

I urge everyone to vote for Sheila Solon for State Representative, 55th District, in the state primary election on Aug 3.

To the editor:

With the Republican Primary approaching on Aug. 3, I would like to take this opportunity to describe why Sheila Solon has my support for the 55th District. Sheila Solon has represented the 3rd District on the Blue Springs City Council with integrity and veracity. Sheila researches agenda items and is thoroughly informed before addressing issues at the city level. This is the type of person I want representing my interests at the state level also.

As an employee for the Blue Springs School District, currently working in special education, I welcome a state representative who openly supports education and will address difficult topics. She believes all students deserve a quality education and that high academic standards must be set for each child. Solon also supports fully funding the career ladder program and the school foundation formula and will work to maintain the current funding for education without raising taxes. Her conservative views and attention to detail are much needed at the state level with the economy in its current condition.

I admire and respect the humbleness Sheila has demonstrated as our elected official for the 3rd District in Blue Springs. I encourage all voters to consider Sheila Solon for the 55th District Republican primary on Aug. 3. She is a proven effective leader

Blue Springs Journal 07/07/10

Sheila Solon is an extraordinary woman. Efficiency, honesty, enthusiasm and friendliness are the qualities that first occur to me when describing Mrs. Solon.  As both her co-worker and friend for over ten years I have seen many examples of her work. I have long been impressed as I admire and respect her leadership skills, diligence and work ethic therefore, I strongly and highly recommend Sheila Solon as Missouri’s House of Representative.

I truly believe we all will be fortunate and benefit in securing Sheila Solon as Missouri’s House of Representative.

Sincerely,
Gail Walker

Sheila Solon will look to protect citizens’ best interests!
During her many years of service to Blue Springs as a Planning Commissioner and City Councilman I got to know Sheila Solon.
As a Planning Commissioner Sheila, through research, revealed an investor wanting to build multi-family had used sub-standard quality in other cities. Fortunately, Sheila was appointed to chair the Multi-Family Task Committee guiding the formation of standards for multi-family housing in Blue Springs to protect residents in our community.
Sheila, again as a Planning Commissioner researched information on a movie rental store wanting to open within the city that revealed they would not be securing inappropriate adult videos from minors. Because of her efforts the best interest of our children were protected.
As a city councilman, Sheila was criticized for voicing her concerns, but she took the heat and demanded transparency and openness after it was revealed $1.2 million in land options and legal fees through the Economic Development Corp. were lost. Again, her efforts were in the best interests of the citizens.
Sheila Solon is needed in Jefferson City as a state representative. She can be trusted to ask those questions in order to protect what is right and best for us. Don’t forget to vote Aug. 3

To the editor:
Freedom is our ability to make choices. The more freedom we have, the more choices we can make.
The more choices we have on how to spend our money, manage our property, develop our businesses and educate our children, the better we all are. As parents, businesses and citizens, we strive to continuously improve our personal situations. As our situations improve, so does our community.
Our freedom in choices, however, is decreasing by yet more taxes and regulations. The taxes take away our choices of how we manage our resources by elected officials and their spending agendas. The more regulating laws we have, the fewer choices we have and far too often infringing on our rights as Americans guaranteed by our Constitution.
When we enter the election booth, we need to choose candidates with demonstrated commitment to our freedom and choice. For our state representative, we should choose Sheila Solon.

Council Member Solon was there when needed

Sheila Solon served as our City Council representative. We got to know her very well as our family dealt with the blasting, burning and flooding caused by the development of Parkway Estates. We were naive and thought homeowners could trust their city to protect their biggest investment, their home, and that the developers would be like the developers we had known over the years in Blue Springs.

You just never know when you are going to need your elected official to help you through a crisis such as we experienced. That is when you get to know her character, level of commitment and integrity. Sheila Solon visited our home in the later evenings, on a holiday, and showed a level of concern that has earned our respect and support.

Some members of our community decided you were either a supporter of development or an evil force preventing it. We saw her hold her head up high and continue working for her constituents when faced with the individuals who should have been caring about their constituents or neighbors but instead cared more about their personal gain. Sheila will represent every constituent, business and organization in her district with hard work and the intelligence needed to discern the wisdom of legislation, and she will continue to protect your home, your tax dollars, and your values.

Ask the candidates for references from people who needed them in the community. Those are the voices you can trust.

It is not often that we get the chance to elect a state representative candidate like Sheila Solon.

When we are presented with a choice who has a belief in spending money wisely, has the necessary experience in government and the determination to stand up for what is right, we need to run to the polls and elect Sheila Solon for state representative in District 55.

Ray Holder: I know Sheila and her family from church. Wonderful people. She's got my vote...

Nora H. Griffith: Sheila, You visited our home on a holiday and grieved with us as our new home filled with the silt and water from Parkway Estates that should have been prevented. You stood up for us against those who should have been protecting us and you did not just listen you acted without care of the political ramifications. That ...is supposed to be what elected officials do. Good Luck and many thanks! The Griffith family

Kyle Gordanier: One of the best memories I retain during my three years of employment with the City of Blue Springs was your ability and drive that resulted in less feet on the desks and more action in the field! I truly enjoyed having you as a councilperson. If it weren't for elected people like yourself we would still look like a ...group of good ole boys from the 70's/80's. Good luck with your election and please let me know if you need anything.

Keith Hannaman: It's easy to support someone like Sheila. You will do good things for us! Anything I can do....just ask !
